We all know the importance of a good night’s sleep but do we realize how much the Interior Design can impact this?
At the end of a long hard day there is nothing better than laying down on fresh bedding and crisp sheets, but how many of us have a conducive Interior Style in the Bedroom?
It’s hard to design a bedroom that is stylish yet functional and calming without making it look like a soul less Show-room.
We spend so much time in our bedrooms trying to unwind from the day. That’s why we should create a serene space for ourselves.
I’m a great believer in the ‘Tidy Home, Tidy Mind’ ethos, which is why I feel so at home with light, minimal spaces.
The Featured bedroom in this article which I decorated from scratch has only essential furniture in it and bright white walls to make the most of the light.
Texture is also key when styling a Bedroom, from the bedding and rugs to the Bedside lamp. I love the use of the small potted plants here and there, which adds life and a splash of vibrant green to bedrooms.
The Dress on the Mannequin makes a statement on my personality without necessarily taking up space.
My belief is that a bedroom should be clean and simple.
I’m a huge fan of simple and functional Scandinavian style with a monochrome and neutral colour palette.
The Featured bedroom in this article is quite minimalist, but at the same time has everything you need to relax.
I have shared below 10 Top Tips and Advice on Bedroom Styling that will help you achieve a great Interior Design and provide you with the relaxing Haven that you need:
1. Keep your Bedroom Airy and Free from Clutter:
This rule applies to everyone and can be achieved irrespective of your bedroom size.
The bedroom is a place where you should be able to relax, rest and sleep well.
The space therefore should be simple, clean and uncluttered. Ban all the unnecessary items and focus on the essentials – comfy pillows, soft bedding, good light for reading, and small bedside table to keep your books and water safe.
Create a space where you can rest your eyes and calm your mind, and it means white walls and no busy patterns.
When it comes to home decor and bedroom styling I like my room to depict a clean, fresh ambience and provide a good air flow.
My bedroom is where I go to unwind and read and it’s important that the space correlates with my wellbeing and mood.
I adore neutral coloured bedrooms, with delicate pieces of furniture and accessories.
2. Use Different Lighting Focal Points:
Lighting and the ambience it provides is really important and I do recommend up to three different lighting focal points within a room, ranging from ceiling lights to bedside lamps and Candles.
It’s also fun to play with a variety of different lightbulbs so that you can have a choice of whether to have a bright light on or something softer to suit your mood.
3. Cushions and Throws:
Cushions and throws add character to a bedroom and provide different levels of texture which can make a room fabulous.
4. Furniture and Furnishing:
You can add a piece of functional furniture or two, if you have a spacious Bedroom.
I’m very fond of shabby chic furniture in a bedroom because it conveys a very romantic Parisian flair. With the correct accessories and a delicate neutral palette a glamorous shabby chic bedroom can be achieved and fabulously lived in.
5. Recliners or Sofas:
Being an Art Lover and a Creative myself, I settled for a Handmade wooden recliner, however you can choose and use whichever furniture suits your personality.
This bedroom is light and airy and the sporadically placed furniture makes it a little Quirky.
The white palette gives a sense of tranquillity and the addition of some playful colours makes it homely and inviting too.
6. Keep your Decor Fuss Free:
Bedrooms should be tranquil and relaxing! When I redecorated mine, I chose a white wall colour with matching bed linen and Blinds to create the illusion of space.
This also maximises the light coming in to the room, and together with the scanty furniture, gives the room a calm and airy feel.
I kept the decor fuss free, just adding red colours for some visual interest.
A chain style cage lights on both sides of the bed gives a cosy glow at night and my bedtime reading supply (Fashion Books and Interior Design magazines) are kept handy by the bed!
The room feels light and airy and I won’t deny it, feminine too. The tall headboard of the upholstered bed and the accessories give it a luxurious look that is always a pleasure to come back to.
7. Bedding, Throws and Pillows:
The Classic Scandinavian Interior Design is a personal favourite of mine.
Furs, wooden floors and plain white walls are the epitome of classic Scandinavian interior design.
There is nothing more relaxing than White Bedding (Fine Linens are ones my favourites) natural light, contrasting textures and a hint of colour popping through the bed.
Simple changes make this interior style easy to achieve; think fur throws thrown over white bedding, painted floors with warmth added through sheepskin rugs, a series of monochrome finishes including framed Pictures and Paintings.
8. Diffusers, Scent Oils and Air fresheners are a Must Have:
For Crisp air, freshness and an inviting Home (Bedroom inclusive) Diffusers, Scent Oils and Air Fresheners are a must have.
9. Add some Flowers or Green Plants:
I love to bring some warmth into the monochrome interior by adding natural materials like Wood, Flowers and Green plants, all of which have been used in this bedroom.
If you don’t have access to life Plants and flowers, you can settle for the artificial ones like I have used here.
10. Apply this Rule if you have a Small Bedroom:
It is hard to say how many times I’ve heard the ‘No bed next to a window’ rule.
However, If your bedroom is extraordinarily small, you might have limited options on where you place your bed. In such scenario You can always find a way to put a bed in front of a window and make it look more awesome than awkward.
Symmetry is key here, as the bed should line up with the window in a pleasing, balanced way and should not obscure the window.
Adding calming palette of colours to your bedding will create a cosy space with a seductive feel.
