Travelling is relaxing, exciting, fun, escape and important for people to be healthy well-adjusted individuals.
Joe Robinson writes in his book Work to Live about Work-Life-Balance “that Vacations reduce the risk of heart attacks by 30% in Men and 50% in Women”.
Travel is as much an emotional concept as a physical one. The feelings attached to a vacation are none to other. Those sentiments of Escape, Adventure, Reprieve and a reconnection to yourself or another person are what make travel so appealing.
Going on a cruise is one of the most exciting and fun filled holidays so don’t be deterred from cruises because of common myths and misconceptions. I will talk in detail about some of these myths and conceptions in another Blog Post.
So for everyone who has never been on a cruise before, I would like to say where have you been? You should try it out at least once in a lifetime.
I got a call from my friend Joan in Spring 2014 asking if I would be interested in joining her on a cruise to the Caribbean Islands; I immediately jumped at it despite the fact that I had never been on a ship before. That trip remains one of my most memorable till date.
We both live in different continents and were sailing from Tampa in Florida. I flew from London to join her at Orlando where she was waiting for me. We were chauffeur driven by one of the most amazing Driver’s I ever met to our Port for boarding. I must say the Americans are a very friendly Lot, I still can’t forget that Road Trip in a hurry.
Embarkation was without any fuss. After going through all formalities with check in, we boarded the CARNIVAL PARADISE and settled in with some cocktails for our fun day at sea. All Passengers gathered for safety briefing and Muster Drill around the pool deck before we set sail.
The best things about cruising in my opinion is that you get to see so many different destinations while having to unpack your suitcase only once. You get to relax in your room each night while sailing to a new port.
The Days at Sea are always fun and packed with activities. Opening your eyes each day somewhere new is truly amazing. Everything is planned for you, all the Onboard Entertainment, Shows and Activities. You can be as Adventurous as you want by going on Shore Excursions or being lazy by the pool.
The amount of different food options you have is unimaginable, from several buffet breakfast option, to exotic restaurants for those romantic meals for two, to cafes where you can have a nice casual meal by the pool. The list goes on and on depending on the Cruise ship you choose.
PORTS OF CALL:
Ours was a Five nights Carnival Paradise cruise to Western Caribbean calling at both Grand Cayman Islands and Cozumel, Mexico.
I made the most of both Destinations through escorted and guided tours.
I spent a few hours browsing through the shops for souvenirs before meeting up with our Tour Guide who drove with us round the small island showing and educating us on their history and major landmarks. Then we proceeded to Tiki Beach where I was wowed with the Crystal clear beach water. The highlight for me was when the DJ played a famous track by DBanj, I went overboard and danced my heart out. I must say I had one of the nicest Rums ever at the Tiki Beach. Cayman Islands ticked all the right buttons hence I would love another visit.
At Cozumel, I opted for a Guided and Informative tour of all the Historic landmarks on the island including the Museum. Cozumel is famous for having loads of Iguanas, and unfortunately I couldn’t get a picture while holding one as I wasn’t brave enough.
The Mayans are the locals and I was quite surprised to discover that they have some cultures and beliefs similar to some parts of Africa .
There was an amazing performance by some Mayan Dancers that left my mouth hanging all through, they are really Brave performers I must say. Below is a snippet of their performance, I’ll be sharing the full video of their performance in another Blog post.
Are you aware that the Mexicans produce some of the worlds finest Tequilas? We toured a Tequila Farm and Manufacturing Plant where we were talked through and shown the production process of the liquor and finally we sampled some lovely Tequila flavours.
I learnt the Tequila toast and it was so much fun moving our hands up and down to toast for each of the tequila flavours we tasted.
The Spanish phrase for toasting in Mexico is “Arriba, Abajo, Al Centro, Pa’dentro” literally meaning, “Glasses up, Glasses down, Glasses To the Front- Health for all of you, and Inside as the end to drink your Tequila.
We had a smooth disembarkation just like our embarkation. We didn’t have to worry about carrying our suitcases from our Starter Room as they were taken right to exit by the porters on our behalf.
